InfraGard members and other business professionals are invited to this special presentation featuring two guest speakers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS Regional Director Alex Joves will provide an overview of the mission and regional delivery model of the DHS Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP). IP leads and coordinates national programs and policies on critical infrastructure security and resilience and has established strong partnerships across government and the private sector. The office conducts and facilitates vulnerability and consequence assessments to help critical infrastructure owners and operators and State, local, tribal, and territorial partners understand and address risks to critical infrastructure. IP provides information on emerging threats and hazards so that appropriate actions can be taken. The office also offers tools and training to partners to help them manage the risks to their assets, systems, and networks.
Benjamin Gilbert, a senior analyst with the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity Advisor Program, will then present on the Office of Cybersecurity and Communication (CS&C)'s mission and operating components, an understanding of operational and cyber resilience concepts, and an overview of the many no-cost cybersecurity services available to public and private sector critical infrastructure organizations across the country. The CS&C enhances the security, resilience, and reliability of the Nation's cyber and communications infrastructure. In order to carry out this mission, the CS&C offers voluntary, no-cost cybersecurity services available to critical infrastructure organizations and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments with the aim strengthening an organization's existing cybersecurity capabilities, capacities, and overall cybersecurity posture.
Alex Joves is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Protection & Programs Directorate (NPPD), Infrastructure Protection (IP) Regional Director for Federal Region V (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin). Mr. Joves has 22 years of government service with the Federal Civil Service and U.S. Coast Guard. He has held senior leadership positions at DHS Headquarters and the field across the Homeland Security mission set. Mr. Joves is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and The George Washington University Law School. Formerly, he was an attorney in private practice. The DHS NPPD IP Region V Office is based in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Gilbert has served in the Department of Homeland Security for over 8 years and has over 13 years of experience in cybersecurity spanning the commercial, federal civilian, and DoD communities. Under the Cybersecurity Advisor Program, Mr. Gilbert manages the development of various tools used by the Cybersecurity Advisors to measure and strengthen the cybersecurity and risk management capabilities of critical infrastructure organizations across the Nation. Additionally, Mr. Gilbert serves as an acting Cybersecurity Advisor deployable out of the national capital region.
