SC Cyber Announces Free Online Cyber Courses

SC Partners with National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium

COLUMBIA, S.C. (August 25, 2017) — Statewide cybersecurity organization SC Cyber launched a new website providing SC Citizens with a portal to access FREE Online Cybersecurity classes.  The online training portal is available in the Resource section of the website.

"No country, industry, community or individual is immune to cyber risks," said Tom Scott, SC Cyber Executive Director.  "But by offering these free online classes, we are moving the needle a little further and making sure all types of citizens have access to these key resources."

The free online courses are being offered through a partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Institute (TEEX).  TEEX is a founding member of the National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium and offers a wide range of online and face-to-face cybersecurity training opportunities.

The cybersecurity courses are designed for a variety of users who have a variety of knowledge in this area.  A Cyber 101 track has been created for non-technical users, a Cyber 201 track has been created for Business Managers, and a Cyber 301 track has been created for those in the IT profession.  Completing all courses within the 101, 201, or 301 tracks will allow for the student to earn a certificate. These courses are certified by the American Council on Education (ACE) for recommended college credit at the completion of each track.

For those new to cybersecurity, non-technical introductory courses create basic awareness and explore cybersecurity in a community context by building basic terminology and identifying fundamental cyber threats, vulnerabilities and countermeasures.

These web-based courses are designed to ensure that the privacy, reliability, and integrity of the information systems that power the global economy remain intact and secure.
